Air Force, Air Peace planes in Egypt to bring home Nigerians stranded in Sudan
A Nigerian Air Force plane, NAF C 130, has departed for Egypt to evacuate Nigerian stranded in Sudan.
They left with a lot of dry food, water, Medications, among other necessities.
The information was posted on the Twitter handle of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, with the words: “Our Prayers are with them.”
Meanwhile, the ministries of Foreign Affairs and that of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development have confirmed that 13 buses conveying 637 stranded Nigerian students arrived at Egypt’s borders at Aswan.
A joint statement by the Permanent Secretaries of both ministries noted that necessary documentation and clearance were ongoing before admission into the Egyptian territory.
Also, the movement of the second batch of 29 buses commenced yesterday, Saturday, April 29.
The statement added that embassy staff were on ground in Khartoum, Sudan capital, to coordinate the evacuation to the very end.
It advised the stranded students and other Nigerians awaiting evacuation to cooperate the embassy staff to ensure orderliness and proper documentation.
The statement faulted reactions to the negotiated $1.2 million for the buses hired for the exercise, noting that it was negotiated in a war condition, with heavy competition.
Meanwhile, the first batch of Nigerian evacuees who have arrived Aswan are expected to be airlifted by NAF C 130 and Air Peace airline.
