5-storey building collapses in Lagos

A three-storey building under construction collapsed at Ladipo Oluwole Street, GRA, Apapa, Lagos, on Sunday.

It was gathered that the building caved in following a thunder strike during an early morning downpour.

Men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, and other emergency responders are said to be at the scene on rescue operations.

Director Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, adding that there was no casualty recorded.

This coming 24 hours after a building collapsed in Ibadan, while earlier another collapsed in Banana Island, Lagos.

NEMA says no death in Ibadan building that collapsed

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has said no one died in building that collapse at Sango Police Barracks in Ibadan on Saturday evening.

The Southwest Zonal Director of NEMA, Mr. Akiode Akande, gave the update on Sunday.

Akiode said the building, which is one of the oldest abandoned structures within the barracks, had showed signs of collapse, as it had cracked in many places.

Lesser Hajj: NDLEA nabs Saudi-bound widower, divorcee with cocaine

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has nabbed one Ariyibi Ahmed Olaseinde and Akanbi Silifat Tunrayo, who were going for lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia, with cocaine.

Olaseinde, a widower, and Tunrayo, a divorcee, were caught at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos, with 14.4kg of cocaine concealed in lace and ankara fabrics.

They were intercepted on Thursday, April 20, at the screening point of MMIA Terminal 2 during outward clearance of Qatar Airways passengers plane.

Soldiers kill 35 terrorists, nab commander, destroy 12 camps in Sambisa Forest

Nigeria soldiers of the 21-Armored Brigade, Bama, Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK, and 199 Special Forces Battalion in collaboration with Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, have killed 35 Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa Forest.

The troops were headed by Brig. Gen. Victor Unachukwu a.k.a Emperor.

They also captured one of the terrorists’ commanders — Alhaji Baana.

At the end of a three-day special operations, the troops cleared terrorists from Garno, Alafa, Alafa D, Garin Doctor, Njumia, Izzah, Farisu, Somalia, Ukuba, Garin Glucose, Garin Ba’aba, Bula Abu Amir, communities in Bama Local Government Area in Borno State.

Breaking: APC dissolves presidential campaign council

The Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has dissolved itself.

The council was set up in September 2022, with Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State as Director-General and James Faleke as Secretary.

A statement by Lalong and Faleke noted that “Our great party, APC, has dissolved its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) inaugurated last year to prosecute the 2023 presidential election.”

Bashir Ahmad, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Communications, tweeted this (Sunday) morning.

Sudan: Special forces airlift US diplomats to safety

The US military has evacuated American diplomats and their families from Khartoum, President Joe Biden has said.

The operation was “fast and clean”, a US official said.

Fewer than 100 people were reportedly evacuated early on Sunday, when three Chinook helicopters landed near the US embassy to collect them.

Earlier on Saturday (yesterday), more than 150 citizens, diplomats and international officials were evacuated by sea to the Saudi Arabian port of Jeddah. They were mostly citizens of Gulf countries, as well as Egypt, Pakistan and Canada.
