Skincare tips during heatwave

Heatwave calls for skincare. Heatwave is a period of excessive heat and, usually followed by, high humidity. This can be tough on your skin.

Scorching heat, high temperatures, and excessive sweat may leave your skin itchy, dehydrated, irritated, and prone to breakouts. Plus, of course, wrinkles and long-term damage from sun exposure.

With the seasonal heatwave around the world turning nightmarish, shifting to a friendly skincare routine is a must.

And here are tips to guide you:

1. Protect skin from ultraviolet radiation

Before going outside each day in the heat, apply sunscreen with SPF 40 or greater. And reapply at intervals. This should be your first line of defence against the scorching sun as it protects your skin from damaging UV rays.

2. Prevent skin congestion

Another skincare tip during a heatwave is to aim to feel fresh and clean every day. With a vitamin B3-infused cleanser (Niacinamide), wipe slate clean twice daily to sweep away the day’s makeup, sweat, pollution, grime and SPF every night.

Niacinamide efficiently eliminates excess oil and cleanses pores. Also, remember to exfoliate twice weekly.

To work from the inside, Niacinamide is found in many foods including meat, fish, milk, eggs, green vegetables, and cereals.

3. Stay hydrated

Stay hydrated from within by drinking eight glasses of room-temperature water daily. Also eat nutrient-dense foods such as watermelon, pineapple, mango, orange, etc.

As well as hydrating from the inside, layer into your skin an hydrating serum and a hyaluronic acid-based day cream to combat dryness and skin damage.

4. Stay in the shade

This tip on skincare during heatwave is simple.

When outdoors, stay in the shade as much as possible. Avoid going out for prolonged periods when the sun is at its strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. To do this, you can schedule outdoor activities for other times of the day.

Also wear protective pieces such as sunglasses, hats and lightweight long sleeves.

5. Nighttime skincare is a must

While you sleep at night, your skin recovers faster from the damage caused during the day. Hence, it is vital to opt for a good night cream and, in fact, complete nighttime skincare routine.

6. Vitamin C is a must, too

Infuse Vitamin C in your regimen right now because antioxidants like Vitamin C are good in battling the effects of sun exposure.

It boosts collagen and inhibits melanin to fight hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

7. Let your skin breathe

The final, but not last, tip on skincare in heatwave is letting your skin ‘live’. Some days, choose to let your skin breathe and go makeup-free. If you must wear makeup, opt for lightweight powders and sheer, oil-free foundations to prevent melting.

The skin is the largest and fastest-growing organ. So treat it with tender care. These skincare tips during a heatwave are just some ways to do so.
