Tinubu: Live updates of his swearing in as Nigeria’s President

Today, May 29, the inauguration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s 16th President, but the seventh consecutive democratic transition of power in Nigeria, will hold.

The programme of events, as released by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, and Chairman, Presidential Transition Council, PTC, Mr Boss Mustapha, HERE.

Quick facts

*Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, after he takes the oath of office, will be Nigeria’s 16th President.

*His benchmarks the 7th consecutive democratic transition and 24 years of democratic governance.

*He was declared the winner of the February 25 presidential election.

*Tinubu’s victory is being contested at the declared the winner of the February 25 presidential election by Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and Peter Obi of Labour Party, LP.

*He will be sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, at Eagle Square, Abuja.

*Over 300 guests are expected, including heads of government.

Below are some of the dignitaries that have arrived:

*The ceremony will also be broadcast live to millions of Nigerians at home and abroad.

*Soldiers, policemen, undercover operatives and counter-terrorism units are at strategic locations and public facilities, including hotels where invited guests were accommodated, in the FCT.

*Also, the military and the police have been conducting aerial surveillance.

*Scores of representatives of foreign governments, diplomats and heads of international organisations began arriving in Abuja, on Sunday.

Governors, too

Similar exercises would take place in 28 states, where governors will be sworn in.

The states are Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River and Delta.

Others are Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara states.

New governors would be sworn-in in 18 states, where the outgoing governors have served out their two terms.

The states are Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba and Zamfara.

Also, 16 of the governors to be inaugurated today are of the All Progressives Congress, APC: they are Uba Sani (Kaduna), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Mohammed Bago (Niger), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Dikko Radda (Katsina), Hyacinth Alia (Benue);

Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Babagana Zulum (Borno) and Umar Namadi (Jigawa).

Similarly, 10 state governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will be sworn in today.

They are Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Kefas Agbu (Taraba), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Siminialayi Fubara (Rivers), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa).

Meanwhile, Abba Kabir of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will be sworn in as governor of Kano State, while Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) will be inaugurated in Abia.
